“People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don't find myself saying, "Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner." I don't try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.” - Carl Rogers

About Jay

I am a level 7 qualified person-centred psychotherapist with 9 years of experience. I specialise in working with LGBTQ+, non-monogamous, kinky/BDSM and neurodivergent clients.

Whether you're wanting a space to explore your identity or just to finally do therapy without having to hide parts of yourself, I offer the chance to be seen and heard as your whole authentic self.

How I Work

Session Format

All of my sessions take place online using Zoom.

I offer live chat, voice and video call sessions - you can choose on the day which style of communication feels right for you.

Session Timing

I offer 30-minute and hour long therapy sessions.

Sessions can be weekly or fortnightly and this can change as we go along to suit your needs.

You can book a regular slot for consistency or book in ad-hoc to fit with a busy schedule.

Session Fee

30-minute session: £25 - £35

1-hour session: £45 - £70

I charge a sliding scale fee: I invite you to pay the rate that you feel best reflects your financial situation.

I ask for no proof of circumstances or justification for the rate you choose to pay.

What to Expect

My approach to therapy is built on creating a radical environment of acceptance and safety. In our work together, I reject the dominant narrative of divergence as pathological (unhealthy or wrong) and offer you the chance to explore, discover and embrace your full identity without judgement.

This space is dedicated to your self-exploration without the need for translation or defense. Trying new ways of being out is actively encouraged - identity doesn't have to be rigid and fixed, despite the world telling us we can only be taken seriously if we are sure of who we are. True discovery comes when we have a space to be playful, experimental and creative - trying on different selves until we find the parts that fit. When we feel that no identity is judged as more favourable than another, we find the freedom to embrace our true self.

I am not here to shape or guide you, I am simply here to walk alongside you, trusting you when you don't trust yourself. We will navigate your journey at a pace that feels secure for you, ensuring that every session is a collaborative step towards healing and self-empowerment. Whether we are addressing kink-specific challenges or exploring the complexities of your broader lived experience from a kink-positive base, my goal is to provide the empathetic and informed support you deserve.

My Approach

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is the core foundation of therapy: that trust that what you share with me won't be shared elsewhere. The boundaries of confidentiality are clearly communicated at the start of therapy, as well as committed to in writing in my contract with you.

Empathy

When our lives don't fit the 'normative' path, we can often feel alone and misunderstood, fearing judgement from others. As a queer therapist from within the kink community, you won't carry the added burden of having to educate me or defend yourself.
Non-judgement and empathy are at the heart of how I hold space.

Client-Centred

Our sessions are a chance for you to bring whatever feels most important to talk through in that moment. Some people want to explore past experiences, some focus on current struggles. I empower you to direct our focus and to go at your own pace, so you only ever open up in a way that feels safe. You choose the content, the format and the goal (if there is one) of sessions.

Therapist Credentials

Qualifications and Experience

I have been working as a counsellor since 2017. I originally trained as a volunteer counsellor at RoSA, a charity in Rugby who support survivors of rape and sexual abuse.

In 2019, I began a 4-year MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice at the University of Nottingham. I graduated with Distinction in 2023.

I also hold a first class BSc (hons) in Psychology from Coventry University.

have previously worked as a counsellor for various organisations, including the Human Flourishing Project, and Trentside Medical Group. I have worked in private practice since 2024. I am an educator, regularly facilitating training on Working With Trans Clients at educational institutes across the UK.

Before becoming a counsellor, I worked as a personal assistant for adults with Down Syndrome.

Modality and Approach

I am a person-centred therapist. Person-centred therapy is radically different to any other form of counselling. There is no formulating a treatment plan, no worksheets, no trying to 'fix you'. I don't think anyone is broken: we all do amazingly well given the places we've been and the situations we are in.

I’m here to offer you a space to be you, all of you, just as you are, without judgment. A chance to be heard, believed and valued. I believe that unconditional care is contagious... through others accepting us we can start to love ourselves more deeply too. And when someone takes the time to really get to know us, we gain a deeper understanding of ourselves.

I do not offer guidance or advice, but this doesn't mean I am passive in our relationship. I listen closely, ask questions to further my understanding of what you are sharing, and offer observations I make along the way. Sometimes I share a psychological theory with you if I feel it will help normalise and make sense of your experience. Sometimes I signpost you to resources or communities that may help you feel less alone. Sometimes we might stray into coaching if you're looking to troubleshoot a practical struggle. I adapt to meet your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer relationship therapy?

I am trained and qualified to work with adult individuals rather than couples, polycules or family groups. However, individual therapy covers all sorts of topics - including the relationships and dynamics from your past and present life. Exploring your dynamic from your perspective is absolutely within the work we can do together.

What issues do you work with?

While I specialise in working with kinky clients, the reality is we are just like everyone else... we get depressed, anxious, and burnt out. Kink might not be what you're here to talk about at all, and that's ok! Some areas I have the most training and experience in working with are: neurodivergence; dissociation and DID; bereavement; disordered eating; BPD/EUPD; trauma; self-harm; childhood abuse; and living with chronic illness/disability.

How long does therapy last?

As long as you want it to! Unlike with many NHS and charity counselling services, you aren't limited to a set number of sessions with me. You can stay working with me for as little time - or as long - as you like. Some people have a goal in mind for therapy, others are simply looking for a place to unload to someone impartial. Whatever your reason for getting in touch, you are the one who gets to decide when and how therapy comes to an end.
